  1. Dear Leo,

Belmondo was a great actor with charm and a taste for risk. He was real.

Pierrot le Fou est certainement l’un des meilleurs films français de cette époque. Il va nous manquer.

  2. Hi Daniel. Thank you for your comment. I’ve never actually met someone who also liked the film, or thought, as we do, that it’s one of the best films ever made. Many film critics, of course. But none of my friends. I might watch it again this weekend. On a related note, I’ve been reading Anna Karina’s crime novel, Golden City, which is a bit like Alphaville meets San Antonio. My French is shaky at best (Simenon, Modiano, San Antonio, etc, I can understand, though I don’t get all of Dard’s puns) and it’s full of slang, but it’s very entertaining. The only book I ever stole from a library was the screenplay to Pierrot le Fou (by throwing it to a friend from the library window, thereby evading the scanner) – I thought that was in the spirit of Fou. I still have it.
