Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery perform a special dismantle of the mandala sand painting Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, in Houston. The ritual was held at the Asia Society Texas Center, where the sweeping up the sands was to symbolize the impermanence of life. The mandala sand painting ritual used millions of grains of sand that were meticulously placed in order to purify and heal the environment and its inhabitants. The sand was distributed to the audience at the conclusion of the ceremony, while supplies last.
