  1. Hi, Catalina. Here in England, “Alfie” was sung by Liverpudlian Cilla Black. It was a huge hit for her. “The Look of Love”, for my money, is easily the best Bond song ever (Casino Royale, 1967). Just the other day, in one of those coincidences, I wrote a piece citing Alfie because the name of an Italian town, Alife, is misread by the character in the story, and the song “Alfie” earwigs him for the rest of the day. I still have a Cilla Black LP, badly scratched from numerous playings in the 60s. Sonny Rollins’s original score to the first film of “Alfie” is still a classic. It’s aged better than the movie.

  2. Catalina — Oh yes, I’m in mourning today 🙁 A brilliant songwriter and a wonderful team! I didn’t know that “The Look of Love” was a Bacharach/David song. I have the Sergio Mendes/Brazil 66 version in my 45 collection.
